You want to lose weight. You’re debating a regimen
of diet drugs, exercise and even possibly a change of diet
itself in order to lose weight. If you’re considering
a change of diet to lose weight but you don’t know
what fats are good for you and which are not, consider the
following: federal health agencies advise that diets derive
no more than 30 per cent of total calories from fat, with
saturated fat comprising no more than 10 per cent of recommended
fat intake.
There are 4 types of fat: monounsaturated fat, polyunsaturated
fat, saturated fat, and trans fat. Monounsaturated and polyunsaturated
fats are the good fats. To lose weight, avoid a diet high
in saturated fat. Saturated fat is not good for you but becomes
a good fat if too much of it is ingested because the body
then transforms it to a monounsaturated fat. Avoid trans
fats totally in order to lose weight and stay healthy. Trans
fat from partially hydrogenated vegetable oils is not good
for your body. The FDA states that trans fat intake should
be as minimal as possible.
Trans fats are placed into foods to increase their shelf
life. Some say trans fats reduce human life. Trans fats reduce
the HDL (good) cholesterol level yet increase LDL (bad) cholesterol
levels. Trans fat causes the body’s arteries to become
more rigid and, perhaps, clogged. In addition, trans fat
may contribute to type 2 diabetes. Reducing Trans fat is
not just a “lose weight” issue but a do-or-die
issue as well.
On Nutrition Labels, the FDA-approved saturated fat levels
are set at 25 grams per 2,500 calories consumed. Trans fat
levels are not listed because no regulation requires a listing
and the only safe level is zero. You can ascertain the presence
of trans fats by watching for the terms “partially
hydrogenated” or “hydrogenated” on your
food labels. On the label of Smart Balance margarine I bought
recently was emblazoned “NO TRANS FATTY ACIDS - patented
blend to help improve cholesterol ratio – non-hydrogenated.” Also
listed were the 3 fat ratios: saturated fat, monounsaturated
fat and polyunsaturated fat. Apparently, Smart Balance is
setting the standard for those wanting to lose weight and
should be an integral part of your weight
loss plans. If you think that diet drugs are a weight
loss plan option for you after having consulted with your
doctor, research Tenuate
diet drugs.
